Default spare a thought for those at work

I have always had a job that did not require me to go to work. I was on an emergency call out rota but that was voluntary and did attend one Christmas day.

There are so many jobs paid and voluntary that require people to be at work.

Well said Ian. My Dad was a Fireman, and they had many a laugh when working on Christmas day - it seemed more like a social club than a Fire Station.

Can you add Trikey to your list? He is doing a water pump this morning.

Yes, these folk (And many others) often go unmentioned, it’s because of them lives will be saved over the Christmas period and services will be provided.

(I may be fitting a water pump this afternoon as well)

Not only NHS, my wife is a nurse in charge of a complete nursing home today and tomorrow, 2x12 hour shifts with many residents where it will be their last Christmas.
Don't know how he does it.

Alas yes some are but some are the calls waste the time of the ambulance service and put people in danger. Daughter works for the ambulance service crewing an ambulance and gets very frustrated by the wasted calls

Son has just come in from work , they had to deal with a couple of suicides , a women who came off a horse causing life threatening injuries and a drunk driver who stuffed his car into a tree and needed to be cut out of his car , just another average day really .
