Default Number Plate Lights

Hi all,

I know this has come up before, I've tried to find the thread but I cant, so I apologise.
Basically, my near side number plate light has decided to pack up.
It's not the bulb.
The bulb holder is in nice condition, but no power coming to it.
I know there's yet another ECU type thingy that can be the culprit.
How do I go about finding / testing and sorting the problem out please?

Many thanks in advance.

Richard

PCB under the chrome plinth probably failed, you can repair, replace or bypass it. There's a how to for it

Yep that or the cable in the rubber corrugated pipe between the body and boot lid has broken.

I've had both happen.

Easy way to check is to remove the boot lid trim panel and check the voltage at the cable terminals on the PCB.

Would that put both number plate lamps out if it was a broken wire?

Yep - both bulbs are wired in parallel on a PCB which is supplied with 12 volts and a return wire.

If you find voltage at the cable plugs then the PCB is at fault, and if you don't then the fault is on the supply side; commonly the cable where it flexes, or a bad earth connection to the car body.

Would have been better if the things stayed fixed........mine has managed to stay illuminated for six weeks

Bulb warning this evening.......however it could be the crappy LED festoon bulbs this time, it will give me a chance to replace them with real bulbs though
