Default tow bar and reversing sensors

Morning All,

I have been installing a OEM tow bar harness into my 75. Over the past couple of weekends I have finally finished the connections behind the glove box, tow bar connectors are NOT installed yet (wires still taped up in the boot). The connection in the engine bay fuse box is still not done.

I went out this morning and when I selected reverse there was only a single beep, then nothing!
When driving I got a dash warning of 'caravan light failure' with a caravan symbol displayed.

I thought that without the orange/slate wire connection in the engine bay fuse box the system was not connected/live??

Thoughts anyone

SteveN

Sorry I don't know the answer but am interested in what "relay" you have used to activate the trailer lights. Could you tell me which one you used?

Hi Ian,

It's the full factory harness, so it will be a BMW unit. I'll get the part no. for you.

This is the harmess and instructions I have been following

The Orange/Slate is the direct battery connection, there is also the ignition connection via the Light Green/Pink cable from the passenger fuse panel. As the caravan lights are not connected, the unit may be treating it as a defective bulb.

I’m having a guess here but think it maybe down to being connected to the lsm and that’s flagging up the bulb failure through the cluster.
Although if it’s not fully connected at the rear it must be getting a fault signal from somewhere.

Just a quick update while I have internet!

Connected the orange/grey wire at the engine bay fuse box yesterday and all my gremlins have gone.
I assume that the error messages I was getting was because of this, as suggested above.

Thanks
SteveN
