Who has a software 3D model sketch file of a R75?
Hi, does anybody have a software 3D model of the Rover 75?
Furthermore thinking, the Rover-company had them ofcourse, and all of the individual elements where in 3D models designed. Now, with nowedays 3D printing available....could mean something for all of us? |

You can buy them, but I very much doubt any are available in the public domain (i.e. free)
Here's an example: https://hum3d.com/3d-models/rover-75-1998/ TC |

Yes indeed, it all depends on the quality of the model and the price. I have been doing a search on the net, and find out that for a detailed model including the interior a price around 700 euro's is asked. I have done a recent project at my work, to 3dscan complete buildings. I will have a look if it would be possible to 3D scan my own Rover 75. One of my purposes would be to re-create a scale model printed 3D in scale 1:18 of the car, and thinking in the future when spares would become less avaibleble, 3D printing of parts would be a possibility to re-create parts needed.

My day job requires just a little 3d work: And I have never found a client who would pay anywhere near £100/hr. Generally nearer £25/30 SteveN

3D or laser scanning is going to be the best option. Just directly scan the car and you should have detailed framework that you could scale.
You shouldnt need to bother creating anything with cad, just scan an example of each wheel for example. Most of the scanners have an inbuilt camera so they can gather colour information too.

I dont know anything about 3D printing or software, but looking for a model of a car I used to own (to complete all the cars I have had - which was a 1987- 1991 mk2 Toyota Camry if anyone knows of one?), I came across this site
Mainly with N and OO/HO scale modelers in mind, but there is a ZT (which appears to have 75 seats). There is a contact designer option on it. https://www.shapeways.com/product/AB...li=marketplace Also available are Rover 800 saloons and fastbacks, but I could not see a 75 LINK Relatively inexpensive, and the detail looks to be very limited, but may be worth speaking with them. It may get you started at least.

I saw a thing on TV sometime last year, there was a company that was cataloguing wheels for classic cars. They had a 3D scanner, scanned an original wheel to create a 3D file. Then if someone wants one of those wheels in future, they print a wheel, and use it to make a mould to cast a new one. However, they were showing the presenter they're new bit of kit that had something like 36 lasers and cost them in excess of £150,000...
For my purposes that shapeways one looks fine, didn't give it a thought to look on there! |

Just to throw a spanner in the works ! All the original 3D design drawings were in software called Catia. Specialist automotive design software I think.
You won't open them to edit with anything else I believe. Bit like the full 3D modelling version of AutoCad. You can view it with other stuff but edit? Nah. Not a chance. The screenshots you see are exports from the original into a different format.
