We need to thank the European Standards for this. You should be able to get Esso Supreme in Hertford, should you so wish. This is what Esso currently say: Esso super unleaded petrol (Synergy Supreme+ Unleaded 97 and Synergy Supreme+ 99 ) is ethanol free (Except in Devon, Cornwall, North Wales, North England and Scotland). We would therefore advise anyone who has concerns about the presence of ethanol in petrol to use Synergy Supreme+ – providing they do not fill up in Devon, Cornwall, North Wales, North England and Scotland. The European standard BS EN228 covers the requirements for 0-5% ethanol unleaded petrol, the labelling requirement for zero % ethanol is E5 (as is up to 5%), a E0 label doesn’t exist. I have written to them to ask if this will still be the case when E10 is introduced.

Got to save the world though haven’t we? So catalytic cleaners will be destroyed. More mining for precious metals. Talk about a load of trumpery. Just as said above, more money for the rich again. How long are people going to take this rubbish?

Why? Surely there should be some explanation. JohnnyBG |

Esso own the largest privately owned underground pipework network, in the UK, that deliver fuel to terminals, such as Avonmouth (Bristol), Erdington (Birmingham), Purfleet (Essex)and Stanwell (near Heathrow in Middlesex). Sadly, their infrastructure does not include areas such as Devon, Cornwall, North Wales, North England and Scotland and they are serviced by their 3rd party terminal suppliers. As far as I am aware, no fuel is supplied from any refinery, that contains ethanol, due to it's highly corrosive properties on such pipework, and other substrates that has contact with it.

Does this mean that either -
1. Esso's distribution pipework will become redundant. 2. Provided that you live (and travel) in an area supplied directly by Esso, our concerns are unfounded / become academic. Regards Mike

I reckon some bright spark will come up with some additive that will negate the effects of ethanol. Any bets?
