I think something is missing from Cat I just bought - confirmation sought
As per title really.
After posting in the wanted section here for a Catalytic converter for my Wifes 1.8 and receiving some advice I widened my search and located someone in Germany who was breaking his 1.8 and had one available. I bought it and it was delivered yesterday. Now correct me if I am wrong, but it looks to me as if its internals are missing. The vendor says he has had the car for 5 years and that it has been fine on emissions. The Cat was advertised as "original and undamaged" and under condition "fully operational and functions as intended" My take on it is that (if as I suspect) it is without the internals it is pretty much scrap metal and of no use to me to fit to my Wifes car which just got through the MOT with 0.16 CO with our failing Cat. Any thoughts welcome. Brian |

How long have you had it on?
I considered that but after discussing at the MOT centre I followed their recommendation of seeing if I could get an original one secondhand as it would probably last longer. This cost pretty much the same as the Klarius one that ECP have. Guess it would have been simpler! |

Much appreciated. Will have to sort out what to do with the one I have just got. Surely it should have something other than empty space inside it! |

Why dont you fit it and then take the car to the testing station and have the emissions tested ??:shrug You will then know if you have wasted your money or not

Some testing stations will let you do an emissions test before you book it in. Before you go take it down the local bypass in 3rd gear at 70mph and you might be surprised. |

I just dont see that I would achieve anything by replacing what I have at the moment with one that to my eyes seems to have, as you say had " the insides bashed out" . If anyone can confirm if this is the case from the photo i would appreciate it. I paid more than a lot of the aftermarket ones are for it, and if it is incomplete I will be seeking a refund. After all i could have bashed out the insides of my existing cat for free! |
