Cool

Evening everyone.

Having a quiet day in. Away from from the rushing around for all the late shoppers. My lovely neighbours across the road gave me a bottle of Wolfblass Cabernet Sauvignon, a gift for taking in there parcels and looking after there house when they have been away.

So I have opened the bottle and had a slurp or two. Might have to open another bottle. Lots of memories of today 11 years ago.

Merry Christmas to you all.

Essentially he's gone downhill and lost the use of his legs in the last couple of days. Tried to get a home visit from a GP this morning. Apart from the usual wait to actually get through, he can't have one because.......He's not registered on their system as housebound . Oh, and, of course, there's the Covid issue as well. Someone will phone him this morning.....Time will tell. This is a guy who worked and paid his dues for nigh on 50 years. Sometimes I despair. Rant over. Look after yourselves and your loved ones.
Don't know of the exact situation and what steps have been taken to date but we found with our late mum's decline that there is a system of help but it wrongly assumes that everyone knows how to engage it and how to fight it to get it to do what it should do and what it exists to do.

If not already done I would contact Social Services and ask for a benefit check to be done for your FIL Also request that he be assessed for Continuing Health Care, they and/or the NHS might try to fob you off re this but hold your ground - they exist to serve the public and not themselves. There are some good ones within the system who understand that but sadly there are some who have crawled in under the radar who think and behave otherwise. A stairlift might be an option for you to consider however the location of the bathroom and toilet would figure strongly in any decision for me. If a downstairs toilet is available then the best option might be to try to get a bed downstairs for him. That would negate the problem of the stairs and the expense and maybe the inconvenience to others of the installation and presence of a stairlift.

As a working family we were totally in the dark re how the system worked and what help was available. Our eyes were eventually opened regards this by one of the more helpful social workers who we encountered with our late mum's situation. We found that there was a strong correlation with benefit and help so it is not just a financial consideration. So engage the system and endeavour to get it working with you and for you. Those who have paid in for it deserve nothing less in their times of need.

Thanks for all the posts.

An update.

A paramedic did go to see him and was in conversation with his GP. Prescribed some additional meds.

Sadly, he passed away, at home, around 4pm today with his wife at his side.

Sorry for the dampener on the last couple of days before Xmas.

RIP.

Nothing you could do about that Andy. Losing a loved one is hard especially at this time of year. We're here to help where we can.
