The incentives for 'ordinary people' are, presumably, to escape fanatical despotic rulers, to flee from indoctrinated religious persecution that keeps them as peasants living impoverished lives, and to enjoy the prospect of a better future for their children. How they manage to scrape together £15000/£20000 per person just for the Chanel crossing beats me. Those smugglers are getting riches beyond belief.

We are hopelessly off target. Persecuting helpless and desperate families and not arresting known criminals who conspire in this awful trade is counter-intuitive at best. It might also be considered as conspiracy to smuggle. Selectively turning a blind eye is, in addition, immoral. We should be ashamed.

I have to show a passport to enter another county and I assumed it was a legal requirement.---I'm willing to be corrected however if you know better.--

Correct. We have one thread chasing the other, as you say, in circles.

Why didn't the admin join them up ??---They have done in the past.--

Question

Just one of the things that makes England so great is you do not need a passport to travel between counties.

If in the face of adversity everyone fled on a plastic lilo for safer shores and pitched up with a gimme gimme gimme attitude just ask yourself, what would happen if everyone did it? Indeed, would the UK be what it is today if for freedom no-one was prepared to do the fighting and the dying.
