Default Help required with drivers external door handle

I am trying to remove part of the external door handle for a member but am stuck.
Towards the door edge/left of the actual handle is a chrome plastic? shroud. I understand that inside the door a small clip needs to be slid towards the back of the car to release this shroud.

Do I need to have the window down to be able to see and access this clip?

thank you

Ian.
If you are referring to the chrome thumb part of the outside handle then the window needs to be removed to gain access to the spring.
