Hi,

Thanks for info. Iv lookeed at those radiators and they are simalar design as mine. All pipes lagged with that grey foam stuff and loft as 12" of loft insulation.

Iv looked at insulating on th inside walls a few years back as i dont like cavity wall insulation. It stops th house from breathing in my oppinion. Ours dosnt have th 2" gap either. It varies in width due to th stone outer blocks.

Were those solid walls you removed? If the rooms were big enough, would it have been quicker, easier and cheaper to attach battens to the solid walls with 2 inch celotex in between the battens and then board over the top? I think a neighbour has done something like this, I'm tempted on the outside walls to do it but I like brick walls for screwing into.

The upstairs ones were a form of ash block from the 1920's and were in a poor state, I replaced all of them with wood and plasterboard, making sure to put wood in at the bottom for radiator mounts to have a solid grip. I used dab and stick in the living room area over brick, the only problems you get with adding on is that the door casings are then too narrow and you need custom ones, no problem for me but it needs to be thought out. I also had to rebuild the coving and that took me five weeks. If you use the dab and stick method you can put some holes in after setting and fill with expanding foam, it feels like solid walls if you do that, the modern foams stop expanding when they reach a surface, the old foams used to carry on pushing. I also used sound deadening boards in the alcoves between myself and next door, they are noisy but now I can't hear them.

65f to 68f was the temperature in my parents home and remains mine so thats similar to Maninders choice. Initially achieving that was a struggle in the 1950's as most were on "back boilers" and partial CH (2 radiators}. Slightly off subject I see Hunderston B has closed down in Scotland, evidently had provided much power for Scotland over 31 years. Chris S.

According to the article, 11 billion pounds for 24 million smart meters that consumers have paid for, that is £458.33 a meter.
That seems expensive and if the article is write about being replaced, a huge balls up

Fast obsolescence - That’s ICT for you. Surely no real surprise?

From what I've read a huge number of cars that rely on 3G connectivity are due to be "Sunsetted" early this year too when it's switched off.
