The fact is, we are well behind a lot of other countries in the change to E10.
"E10 has been used around the world for a number of years now, with the likes of the USA having used E10 since the 1990s." We have been using E10 in my wife's Citroen C1 since it became available in September. In this car it has made no difference whatsoever, performance and fuel consumption are unchanged. I did cause a few issues in my classic bikes. It causes the old fuel lines to perish and need replacing. It can cause the inside of the old metal petrol tanks to rust if left in an half empty state as ethanol absorbs water, making the metal rust. Basically it's not particularly good for anything old enough to be fitted with a carburettor. All modern fuels are designed for fuel injection. These are all well known facts about any fuel with ethanol. But all cars made over the last 10 years or so are designed to run on it, and have been in other countries for some time.

“No compatibility information for Rover cars is available as the manufacturer no longer trades. It is therefore not recommended to use E10 petrol. Drivers should continue to use E5.” |
