My grandad would never throw anything away. He kept the silver trays from those frozen meals that you put in the oven. When i asked why he kept them, he said they may come in handy. In handy for what i asked, and all he could say was... you never know.

I am not sure why elderly people don't spend but I think it's a mixture of two things. Not knowing how long they will live and how much they may need and secondly they know when it's gone they can't get more.
Someone working can spend money as they know they have time to make it up with overtime or changing jobs. The elderly have their pension and no way of boosting their funds. I could of course be wrong but I think that's how my Mum and Dad looked at it. |

I said that's how I think my Mum and Dad looked at it and they were in their mid 80s when they died so I guess that's what I meant when I said elderly
