Default Major job completed

For some reason a door handle and catch were never fitted to the living room to hall door at my son in laws house.
I was asked to help fit one, simple task????
Fitted a catch, just a roller catch. Push door closed, it sprang open.

Checked the hinge side of the door and sanded or planed any part of the door that seemed to be touching the door frame. Still it sprang open.
The screws holing the hinges in place were in at an angle and so we took out one or two and bingo, the door closed and did not spring open.
I think the heads of the screws were touching. We drilled the screw holes,
filled with a wooden dowel and glue.

As his family were coming over we used the door as a table and he spotted one of the hinges was bent. New hinges bought but the holes did not line up. More dowels fitted, new holes made and now the door scrapes the floor.

Door off, bottom planed. Door was not square across the bottom but bowed?????.
Door rehung and bingo, no scraping of the floor, no attempt to spring open and catch works a treat.

what a major job for something so simple.

What a friggin bodge job.

Also replaced a leaking radiator and fitted a different catch to another door.

Soon my daughter and son in law are moving house and the wife and I are quite excited as their new house needs a fair bit of work and for some reason, we like diy
