Default Inner Tie Rod - Rover 75 2003 2.0 V6 Auto

Hey Guys,

I've recently got Rover 75 and become a proud owner of one of the greatest looking car.

Looks like this is my first post - so would like to say Hello to everyone, straight from Dublin.

Anyways - to cut long story short - got it to the garage and chap there told me that while everything seems to be really fine with me 'silver bullet' - it looks like
inner tie rod needs replacement but looks like it is hard to source (or impossible?) ?

Any ideas where I could get needed part?

Cheers
Bernard

Welcome Bernard.I'm not 100% sure what Tie Rod you're on about but if you've trouble getting parts for the 75,try Toppings in Enniskillen. They've couriered stuff to me a few times and they're reasonable.Ph No. 004428 66323475.

Hi Chrissyboy,

yeah that was my first shot, but... apparently

Car: Rover 75 (RJ) 2.0 V6, 150 hp, 1997 cc
From: 02/1999 To: Present
Engine Codes: 20K4F

Sorry, these parts do not exist for this car.

and I've been digging a bit deeper - apparently Rover didnt listed it as a spare part and it should be replaced with the whole rack

however apparently Inner Tie Rod from VW Sahram (or whatever is the correct name) fits Rover 75...

The 'inner tie rod' you refer to is the steering rack push rod that the curved outer track rod end (with ball joint) screws onto. Here's Rimmer's drawing (linked direct to site). You can se the threaded socket sticking out of the rack.

The standard fix for this is a replacement rack unit complete. Certainly there is no MGR part number for this item which is regarded as an integral part of the power steering rack unit. There are companies who refurbish steering racks and some offer the various bits. Whether actually replacing this rod in the 75/ZT system is a practical proposition I don't know. You might wonder what else is worn if the inner ball joint has failed (rather uncommon).

Thank you T-Cut.

However this is 'closed' cased now as I have sourced couple of originals anyways.

Inner ball joints arent really worn or damaged or broken (didnt failed) - but since all other parts of the car are in almost perfect condition this is the only piece that isn't that good and since it is cheap to buy and replace (all 2gether about 100 euro) I want to do it and keep my lovely silver bullet in great condition
