Mickthebus's Exhaust Pipe Question
I have a 2003 1.8 club se saloon i have recently found out that the exhaust is one complete unit from front to back with no joints whatsoever.The car has only done 44000 mls so i presume its the original fitting. Has anyone experienced the same problem when time to replace a section. Any advice would be most welcome

The originals are indeed one piece .
It is common practice when replacing a back box to have to cut the old one off at the appropriate point , and the replacement will usually have a flared pipe to be clamped back on. Aftermarket products usually also come with their own hanger straps so the original brackets can be discarded . Will you be doing it yourself or taking it to a garage ?

Done a couple with the original exhaust in place. A 1.8T which needed a sleeve as an adapter, and quite recently a 2.5, an 18 year old car still with the original exhaust. The 2.5 didn't need a sleeve, fitted a Walker exhaust as I like the strap which it comes with, fit the strap first and then slide the silencer into it - I like an easy life. In both cases I just used an angle grinder to cut the original pipework (and even the old rubber mounts, stinks but it's quick & easy).

All factory fitted systems were one piece, but the MGR replacements are in sections which are butt-joined using a compression sleeve. The majority of alternative, after-market spares will have a swaged end that slips over the original pipe and clamped with a U-bolt, but products may vary.
