Oh yes definitely Dave, I have said all along this is going to be a show car so some decent replacement parts will be going on it.

Beautiful weather and peace and quiet, 'tis a good time to be alive.

Default The recommissioning begins

That rear antiroll bar looks in lovely condition, hopefully the rest of the underside is as good.

After waiting in most of the day the key finally arrived, and so it was time to make sure it was all good.
First thing I noticed was how bmw have dropped Valeo as the blade provider.
Cover offf the car and try it in the door, locks and unlocks that ok, so I fit a battery and try the key in the ignition, joy of joys, it works, and a little dance around the car park to celebrate.
Checking the oil beforehand I was surprised just how clean it was, fuel pump fuse removed and I turned the engine over, the first time it’s moved in a little over 8 years, sounded perfectly ok, so time to plug a code reader in, 18 stored fault codes, all duplicated tho, some I expected as I had disconnected several things on the engine also I knew it was never going to fire up.

Fuel gauge indicated a full tank of fuel, again at least 8 years old, any collectors out there.

Drivers window mech was fitted and the glass refitted to the mech, checked it all worked ok then refitted the door card and then a quick clean up of the interior, the smell of newness is still very present in the car.

Next job will be a good clean of the exterior before I investigate as to why it broke down, looking at what the clown from the breakdown company has done leaves me speechless.

Still a few pics for you to enjoy.

I found a selection of cd’s in the changer, goodness knows what’s on the recorded ones.........

Today I took the opportunity to sort the engine wiring loom out,
Once that was done I took the plugs out of the front bank to check, all looked in very good condition, however the bolts holding the later type coil packs in were missing.

A check on Rimmers for the replacement bolts brought a tear to my eye, £7.04 each...a google search came up with identical ones from an original mini parts place as 63p.

A look in my nuts and bolts tin produced 3.
Coils tightened down and a final look over the engine.
I then put a fully charged battery on and removed the main relay, then I plugged the code reader in and cleared the 18 stored faults and cranked the engine over a few times in 5 second bursts.
Main relay replaced and then I tried to start the car, no joy whatsoever.

Plugged the code reader in again and the code for the crank sensor came up, so off I go to remove it and, theres not one there, luckily I had one in the garage so that was fitted, fingers crossed , try again, nothing.
Checked to see how much if any fuel was coming from the valve, no pressure.
Then I checked every single fuse on the car and all was well so I decided to check the fuel filter, pulling that out solved nothing, it was intact and no sign of separation.
I could not hear or feel the pump prime at all so I decide to pack everything away and look for some info as to why its not working.

It didnt take long to find a comment from marinabrian as to the location of the fuel pump relay, so that will be a job for another day.

One of the 16 year old tyres decided to finally pop its clogs, the sidewall had perished to the point where it could no longer bear the weight of the car, I wonder how long before the others pop.

I think she needs a new pump 🙄

Also had a look at the underside, which seems to be pretty good.

It’s seen better days .

And a couple of the car after a wash.

That looks quite good considering how long it was standing. The pump looks a bit sick tho. It perhaps would help if you siphoned the stale petrol out and put a couple of fresh gallons in.Hope you get it going soon, and not at to much cost. Fingers crossed.

Thanks Dave.
I've found a new replacement pump thats quite a bit cheaper than Rimmers.
To say I was shocked at that when I removed it is an understatement, I'll remove the old fuel when the pump gets replaced.

Apart from the breakdown person making a complete bodgery of the loom the car is a joy to work on, and I have finally found how to switch the radio on.

I managed to get the fuel pump out today, the entire intank wiring is kaput.
There is also some black gloop in the tank, probably some form of bacteria.
So now the tank will have to drained and cleaned several times, I am also going to replace the later fuel filter side with one from an early car, that way not only is it all matched once cleaned there should be no contamination.

Some pics.

This cable connects to the other side, or should I say did, again this was well above the fuel level.

The extent of the wiring damage.

The float is soft to the touch

The black goop in the tank

Thank goodness this is a project and not my daily.
