I've been reading through all your posts about decks and turntables and funnily enough for some years now I've had a yearning for one-------------------------------------------------
rather much larger though.

I want one at the end of my drive that I can put the car on; swing it around and be able to drive out safely on to the road and not have to back out.

Trouble is they're a wee bit more expensive than those that you lot like to tinker with.

Colvert.

Besides my wife wouldn't have enough Xmas paper wrappers to put it in.

Gawd - that takes me back - I remember buying my first CD player, connecting up to the amp - and sitting there marvelling at the crisp, clean sound, even from an Irish Folk disc

I used a good old East German Practika for donkey's years - together with about a dozen different lenses which I bought over the years - including a 500mm telephoto, teamed with a shotgun stock mount so that I could 'fire' pix from the shoulder -very useful for trying to catch fast-moving rally cars in dark Scottish, Welsh and English forests! Some of the results were superb - but I must admit the ease of use of a bridge camera has impressed me - set to "auto", I have been really chuffed with the results. My current Fuji is only 4 megapixels, with 10x optical zoom - and I wouldn't mind improving on both of those. However, with SWMBO joining me on the 'retired register' next month, I'm not wanting to spend lots of cash.
Steve's Canon Eos 400d would be a great camera as an upgrade Rod.
Not sure if anyone makes an ef or efs mount to Practika lens adaptor as you could use some of your old lenses if so. You will loose autofocus and other features mind.
I shoot my Motorsport shots with a Canon Eos 7d, gripped and use in the main a Sigma 120-300 f2.8 lens and if I need extra reach I have a 1.4 and 2.0x teleconvertors.
Never tried a shoulder mount, are they any good?
Usually got my lens on a monopod because it ain't half heavy:xmas-smiley-029:

You and Steve have got me thinking now - thanks!
The shoulder/shotgun mount was good - trigger was connected to a cable release to cut down on shake. The Practika by itself was damned heavy - even a 210mm tele lens meant you had red sores on your hand from holding the thing !
I don't do a lot of motorsport stuff now - for whatever reason, forest rallying seems to be concentrated in the Welsh Forests nowadays, rather than those on my doorstep, such as Cropton, Dalby, Wykeham and the like.
I'm more attracted to shots of the great outdoors now - I get so much pleasure from looking back at photos of the great British countryside where I have spent, and hopefully will continue to spend, so many wonderful holidays. Fastest moving thing I'm likely to catch now is a dolphin in the Moray Firth - as opposed to Lancias, Toyotas, Fords etc. doing 120mph through the trees!

As long as it spins that Cobra (in the second shot) off in my direction - that car is even in front of Julia Bradbury on my list

I'm going to get in trouble if she sees me posting pictures.
But I love a challenge and the spanking afterwards
