Just out of interest, what download speeds are you getting with BT, and what are your monthly limits?

The Trouble with download speeds is that they vary so much with distance from exchange and even next door could be faster for no apparent reason.
For 8MB downloads you have to be very Local to Exchange, regardless of what they tell you and switching Supplier unless they have their own equipment at exchange won't make any difference at all as use same wires to house.
The Upload speeds can be very different between suppliiers, none of course very fast.
The more users in your area can effect your connection speeds at different times of day. The user Ratio to Bandwidth is a further problem and so it goes on.
We in the UK still have some of the Slowest connections around, 20MB to 80MB now in Japan!

I'm 15 feet from the exchange, although the cables have to follow the road and then up a pole before getting to my house. Down is 8.09 up is 448.

I don't have a hub phone but can plug an ordinary touch tone phone into the appropriate socket on the Speedtouch home hub router thingammy jig. I also have standard all calls on the phone line so may cancel that bit when I've tested the internet phone system. Been too busy thus far.

Amazing technology this ADSL. A few years back, all you could get through copper wires was 56k on a good day, now it's 8Mb and rising!

Think I'll stick to Cable though, I'm a long way form the exchange and the best I could hope for is 2Mb, plus I'm soon to be upgraded to 20Mb down! :SHOCKED:

If you have the availability of Cable it does generally give faster Download speeds, so generally the better option for most if you have that option.
Not available in Wales in many places, and nothing like it where I am, some cannnot even get Broadband!
