I remember Clarkson in the back of that F15
I did toy with the idea years ago of going to Russia for a go in a MIG29

Know someone who's done it, cost them 3K for the hour and said it was worth every penny.

Of the V bombers I would say a Victor K2 when all revved up and ready to roll. A Phantom with reheat selected and ready to roll will certainly rattle your body and sensors ... more so if you are sat close to it on the threshold. But I suspect many of the Russian military jets might top the league because of the sometimes crude focus on raw power. The Russian TU-95 with its 32 18-foot-long props is certainly known to be noisy for its contra-rotating sets of props ... you can hear it before you can see it apparently.

I was going to mention the Vulcan on it's spiral climb Steve but I haven't seen/heard much of the Victor.I once saw a Phantom do a low pass along the runway at Cosford on full reheat and the atmospheric conditions meant it was almost entirely covered in water vapour. That was a sight I will never forget.Truely awesome power.

What is your height in centimeters Andy? The taller you are the harder it is for your body to cope with the forces of gravity ... please believe me from someone who stands at 181cm. Lol!

Victors were my first operational posting, Mick, so they will always be dear to my heart. Great respect for the Vulcan, its engine howl and fantastic agility in the air for its size. But for me the Vulcan sticks out in my mind for its aerodynamic breaking ability. Having landed on the runway and displaying its sit-up-and beg technique, gracefully rolling down the runway nose up high before gently lowering the nose wheel without the need for streaming the brake chute. Magic.

How many engines does your Tu95 have then?

Certainly a Vulcan on that spiral climb above is awesome, and loud!

I don't own one, I can't afford to. But to the best of my understanding it has 4 main engines. The bulk of the noise I gather comes from its props and not the engines. But I'm a poor little northern boy and I stand to be corrected.

Luckily for me, the same year the Russians had their mishap, 1993, they also brought over a Tu95 Bear. Four engines with contrarotating props, a wonderful sound on a long approach, like a whirring/winding noise, not unlike the Shackleton, as you say those props create that.
