Does anyone know what capacitors are the two reds? In case I need to buy new one.
I think it's written something like "μ 47k 100" Last edited by beavis; 4th February 2021 at 13:12.. |

The '100' is most likely the maximum working DC voltage. The "k" will indicate a 10% tolerance. The "μ 47" probably decodes as 0.47 μF. This is a very small capacitance. As I said earlier, the capacitors will be interference suppressors, to absorb the spikes created on the car's power supply when the fan motor starts. They will not stop the motor running. You need to replace any badly worn brushes in either your current 2 speed motor or in the second-hand 3 speed motor you have been offered. If you choose the 2 speed motor, solder the loose capacitor across the two outer terminals as shown in Stocktake's post so that you retain interference suppression. Simon

Thanks Simon, didn't know that . my previous limited involvement with capacitors ( Fitted to fans on air circulation units) was that if the capacitor failed the fan wouldn't start but if started by hand it would then run.

Hello, the red capacitor is now soldered between the 2nd and 3rd terminals, not 1st and 3rd like you advised. I hope this is not a problem. My friend told it would make no difference anyways. Fingers crossed.
So now there are capacitors between 1st and 2nd and between 2nd and 3rd. I'm installing the fan tomorrow. |

You don't have to install the fan just hook it up to the car loom, get someone to hold it, start the car and press the demist button see if it works. 1

Good point Arctic! Will do that! My friend kind of tested it but we just saw it barely spinning because it was just the motor with the plastic blades still attached. We kept distance but it was dangerous to let it get up to speed so we didn't.

The fan motors on our cars are of course not induction motors. |

OK.. so far so good.
The fan is working perfectly. I will check it from time to time to make sure it is working and to change the brushes when necessary. I got a new radiator also. (The old one was very heavy and little coolant leaked out of it while dismounting.) The temperature didn't crossed 95 degree at 80-100km/h (50-60miles/h) and 102 degree in the traffic. The fan is kicking in at 100 degree, bringing it down to 96. If I'm standing still and the fan is working apparently the is not much coolant circulation at 700rpm so the temp is going down very slowly. But if I kick the gas pedal, the temp goes down to ~91 immediately. Should I seek for better water pump for the future? BUT, I always had coolant in Vee of the kv6 I hope it was due to the higher temperatures.... with the temps down by 10 degree I hope there is not much leaking going on. Will see. Thank you very much for the support, I've learned so much during this little journey. I'm on to changing brake disks, and checking the braking system end-to-end. Next would be the Vis motors (currently I got a vis motor stuck in closed position). I will open and clean them as per youtube tutorials). I really hope I could keep this car in good condition for the future! I love this design! |
