It could be an injector issue, or a failed seal on the turbo.

Thanks for your reply, I will try the cleaning of the injectors as a starting place, if that doesn't work then I will have to look at your possible causes as well.

Thanks for the suggestion of using the Forte Specialist Vehicle Diesel Injector Cleaner for clearing the white tailpipe smoke emmision.


I poured a bottle into the fuel filter, the remainder of the bottle back in the fuel tank, started the engine and left to run for a full minute and then left to stand in the garage overnight. The following day I took it for a fifteen mile run at high speed. The white smoke had dissapeared from the exhaust when I returned home and the Rover passed its MOT with flying colours a few days later.
