Hi Chris, thanks for the photos. They show the usual failure of the bond between the silicone bead and the steel gasket. Interestingly, yours is a different version from the one I had. If you compare the images, yours has a more sophisticated bond design from mine. Mine is a simple extruded strip whereas yours has distinct lands along the inner edge to increase the bond area. In that regard it more closely compares with the currently recommended elastomer. Perhaps the year difference in registration shows a change of spec? Even so, it failed the way many (most?) 1.8's do. Is it actually a victim of OAT or of poor gasket design/spec? Who knows - ?
