Motorways to trial 60 mph speed limits to reduce pollution.
Speed limits will be reduced from 70mph to 60mph on M6 junctions 6 to 7 by Witton, M1 junctions 33 to 34 by Rotherham, M602 junctions 1 to 3 by Eccles and M5 1 to 2 by Oldbury.

The end of the world is coming! Unless they stop selling cars capable of doing silly speeds with ease, some folks will cruise along as fast as they dare. California and Oregon are currently feeling the effects of donkeys years of their residents abusing mother earth.

MEP's have just won a vote to tighten emission limits by a further 20% by 2030 which will effect the UK.

Speed limit on the M4 around Newport & Port Talbot has been 50 MPH for years now. Personally I see no issue the traffic flows and you get where you're going - eventually!
It always makes me smile that the speed limit is set to cut emissions and in smelling distance the steel works is pumping out all sorts of questionable plumes of smoke throughout the 50MPH limit.

We still underpin & mirror the EU's emission standards.

Makes sense. All sections being trialled are in busy urban areas. I bet it'll have benefits to traffic flow too. It'll be interesting to see the results.
