Rover 75 1.8T - Wont start, NO click from the starter motor solenoid
All, I wonder if you can help, I have been looking around the forums for a particular problem that I have with no avail.
I have an intermittent issue starting, it started ok in the morning, went over to the shops and parked up, but then when I try to start after 20 mins or so, there is NO click from the solenoid, all the lights on the dash are fine, I've got a fully charged battery and car will start with a bump (Very easily) Leads look ok to the starter (Will take the battery box off to get a closer look though) Went back to the car in the evening and started fine no problems? Faulty Solenoid? Is it on its way out? are there any other electronics getting in the way of 12v reaching the solenoid/starter? Any ideas what this could be before it goes completely, like I said there are plenty of suggestions where you get a click, but I get nothing. Cheers in advance TheSnowMan |

Classic non start issue on a 1.8 is a dirty/corroded spade connector to the starter motor.

Hi Tony,
As Yorkshire GOC and Planenut have said, begin by checking that the electrical connection is bright and clean. After that, your symptoms do suggest worn contacts on the starter solenoid. I've had this. There's a repair kit available for under £20. Please let us know how you get on. Simon

Thanks for all the replies, it was the spade connector, very dirty. Cleaned with some wet and dry, started up first time, it's been a few weeks now with no problems. Fingers crossed 🍀

A squirt of ACF50 on electrics (once cleaned) saves a recurrence of corrosion. Brilliant stuff in my experience but keep it away from brakes as it acts like a lubricant too.

Is it effective on sills/sub frames or is it just effective on aluminium etc?
