Default Mk3 Nav fail

HI, i have a bmw mk3 nav drive in my ztt,
now i suspect it may be dead but i would like to think im wrong,

basiclly it worked fine but i got a update disc and put that into the drive, after a while i didnt think anything was happening, the red power light was solid red all the time i left it a fair while and the light never went out so i pulled the plug, since then i dont have the power light on, it will take the update disc and you hear the drive run up make a few noises then repeat a few times and then eject the disc,
now i tried the key cd that i got at the same time and when i insert that the drive sounds like it is spooling up the disc and reading it as it runs alot longer and then gently slows down and ejects the disc as though it has done its job,

could i just have a very poor update disc?
is there hope? or should i just give up and get another drive?

Thanks
Nathan

How long did you wait? When I updated mine last year I think it took over half an hour. Which software version were you running and what were you upgrading to?

It may have bricked it, apparently it can take ages and look like its doing nothing.

Unplugging it may have killed it.
If so ive got both a BMW and Rover Mk3 drives ive just removed from my cars.

I waited a while but since realised I didn't start it off correctly so that might have done it.

Not sure what it was running but tries v32 with post code setup.

I am not overly worried about it not working as I paid peanuts for the whole setup,

What's the cost of replacment though?

With the right disc, more importantly burnt correctly, it maybe possible to rescue the drive. I've recovered a couple of these which were thought to be goosed - same symptoms.

You maybe ok at 10x its more important to be a Mode2 CD.
My drive has a minimum of 8x and has burnt them ok.

Yeah, slow speed is ok, but as I understand it, it has to be a MODE2 FORM1 CD (I had a little saga earlier this year).

I use Imageburn to burn the image downloaded from the net and it worked a treat. I can always pop you a cd in the post, or if you get really desperate, send me your nav drive and I'll try myself.
