Default Radio - Symphony - Wont Pull Forward from Facia

Hi, I need to get my radio out from my 75CDT 2002 but am having trouble on the last stage of removal.

I have removed the eyebrow from the facia and the two screws holdng the radio. I cut two stips of a credit card to push into the horizontal slots. But even when I push the strips in the radio will not pull forward. Its as though its still being restricted somewhere. I will move a little now in its location but for the life of me I cant get the darn thing to pop out.

Any idea? Advice much apprecaited..

Rich.

It is a bit of a Bad design. When you slip the Cut credit cards in, they don't actually push teh clips in. What I did was got 2 electrical screwdrivers and slipped them down the side of teh Radio. Then carefully levered it out.

The Cut credit cards won't even come into contact with the clips that need to be pushed in.

The Slots are Horizontal on the Symphony and really need to be Vertical.

The Picture below better explains it. When you push teh Card bit in the slot, it should push the clip down allowing it to move inwards and unclip from the console, but it doesn't do it well enough.

Marvellous! Thats really helpful ... thank you for the info and also for the photo!

I've spent ages fiddling about with the thing, cutting strips of plastic and taking the skin off my knockles pulling it about; so this explanation will let me get it out.

:-)

GOOD NEWS! Got the thing out.... I found two old credit card bit of plastic and slotted them down the side of the radio. By wiggling them down, moving the radio a bit they evetually slid between the radio spring and the car and allowed the unit to slide forward. Not to tricky but your advice above was invaluable!

Also, slightly bent the side springs in a bit with a pair of pliers so that they dont spring out quite so far the next time I need to remove the unit. Which looks soon as will change it for a standard head unit with CD built in, then remove the 6 cd changer in the glove box.
