KV6 2.5l backfiring
Hi folks.
My cars developed a new problem. Such are the joys of a Rover 75. What is happening is when it's starts . I am 99.99% sure that it is back firing through the throttle body and it won't idol smoothly by any stretch of the imagination Any ideas will be very appreciated. Be excellent to each other and ho ho ho. Damien |

Hello Damien,
Are you sure that you don't mean misfiring? misfiring = spark intermittently not occurring resulting in lumpy running. backfiring = spark occurs at the wrong time so that the fuel is ignited usually in the exhaust system. This is identified by a loud bang! Simon

An engine that is running very lean will, apart from having a rough idle, have a tendency to spit back through the inlet.
Does the idle smooth out as it warms up? Does the backfiring stop as the idle/running improves? If that is the case it is probable that the engine is not receiving the cold running enrichment it requires. Another possibility would be a poorly seating inlet valve (not so likely though). Just a thought.

Sounds not dis-similar to my ailing engine but mine threw some codes my way so hoping the fix is relatively simple in new coil packs (previous owner replaced one but left the rest) and plugs.

Possibly a coil pack. Had the same on my 2.5. New coil pack did the job. You really need a T4 session. I bought 6 coil packs from our own stockist, DMGRS on here.
