Default Lower bumper bolts

I spent a few hours today removing the screws holding the bottom of the bumper.

All 10 bolts were rusted in and obviously had never been removed.

I tried a impact driver and with this manged to remove 5 of the bolts, the rest had to be drilled out, quite a job as you have to work underneath the car using the drill upside down.

There were 10 screws, now on a facelift diesel the middle four bolts are actually turnbuckle bolts [only require half a turn] the other six are M8 bolts with a pozidrive head, but on the V8 all ten of the bolts are M8 with pozi. heads.
After drilling off the heads I had to remove the captive nut/clips and drill and re-tap the threads.

So, here's a tip, V8 owners loosen your lower bumper bolts and grease them and re-tighten them.

All the above effort was to replace the fan resistor and fit a second horn..

I greased mine while the bumper was off. Point to note there are two sets of screws one for the bumper and one for the air dam. Worth doing them both.

Couple of mine were the same but WD40 did the trick

Oh no!!

Not more drilling out bolts, I'll have to leave the air dam for a later date..

Dave you don't have to remove those 10 bolts to remove bumper !
(assume you are talking of ZT bumper?)
Its the 6 self tappers & 4 X quarter turn fasteners on ZT's & V8

My resistor instructions do mention this!!

On my V8 Contemporary all the lower bolts that fix the underneath of the bumper are M8 Pozi. bolts.
None are self tappers and the centre 4 are not the turnbuckle type.

When I fitted your fan resistor to my Duotone Connoisseur, the fixings were as you described.

It could be something to do with the Premium bumper and the air dam that is fitted to the Rover 75 Contemporary SE V8.

Mine bolts are rusted in place too and the second horn has packed in... a job for the summer!

I'd love to have a look at the V8 Dave!!

Rob if you're talking about the front 10 Philips screws on the Lower Front edge of a ZT bumper.............these do not need to be removed for bumper removal!!

It's the row behind those
ie: Qty 4 quarter turnbuckles & 6 self tappers (3 on each front corner)

Really? I didn't know that. Previously i'd removed the 10 screws of which some have rusted in. Do the rear one's take some black plastic covering with them?

Default Zt Bumper Removal (10 Screws To Leave Alone!)

Here's a pic from underneath my ZT
It's the row of screws behind on the black parts of the skirt, which need to be removed for bumper removal.

No need to remove the row of 10 holding the painted part (unless the skirt becomes damaged!)
Much easier to remove these, once the bumper is off if you really want to renew them (maybe for stainless steel)

Excuse the strange camera angle ( the car is not standing on it's head!!)
I'll get a pic with bumper off one in next 2 weeks.
