Default 2003 CDTi Club for spares or repair

*** Update 19 Aug - Car now sold to club member ***

Hello forum members

It’s decision time for my 75! It’s failed the MOT today (expires 23 Feb) and I don’t think I can justify the repairs, which is a shame because as you’d expect the engine has run flawlessly in the three years I have enjoyed it and still does.

I would rather it go to a forum member if possible than send it for scrap…

Good points:
  • Full service and new front left wheel bearing on 15 Feb 2019
  • Plenums dry
  • No water in wheel well
  • Four good tyres – two almost brand new
  • New battery

MOT failure points:
  • Headlamps opaque and need polishing
  • Rust holes in both rear sills – inner and outer – needs welding, quoted £300
  • New exhaust back box needed
  • Nearside rear coil spring broken
  • Both front suspension arm bushes worn

MOT Advisories:
Brake discs all round worn but not seriously weakened, brake pipes “corroded, covered in grease or other material” (brake pipes were replaced in 2009); front brake hoses slight corrosion to ferrule, both rear rear trailing arm inner bushes worn but not resulting in excessive movement, light misting of oil on both rear shock absorbers, slight travel on handbrake lever.

Other points:
  • Hole in aircon condenser so does not get cold
  • Scrape on passenger side rear sill was professionally repaired, but chrome sill strip loose where bodyshop glued it instead of clipping it (I have new clips ready to install)
  • Cosmetic flaws as expected for age: paint rubbed off on left wing mirror, slight scuff on rear bumper, small scratch on boot sill.
  • Clutch has needed bleeding twice in last four months – possible slight air leak in master cylinder? Works fine at the moment.
  • Chrome trim round interior door handle has come off (clips broken)
  • Plastic finishing strips on door thresholds loose

Please message me with any questions; pictures available on request.
