The idler wheel, in front, employs a bearing which can collapse.

I wonder if you should not perhaps have a peek front and back, to see if anything looks out of the ordinary.

Have you got any funny noises?

Not really. I just signal the abs that showed on the scoreboard. And the diagnostic tool (elm 327) detects a failure of the speed sensor (Code P0500)

If not,
Bad news: the two small belts are relaxed. I think the jump is 3 teeth EVERY side.
I just removed the protective shells without turning the crankshaft in backup mode. the weather is bad outside.

How I do to see any damage ?

1. Watch this video and notice how to insert the locking pin. Ignore the rest of the video.

2. Put the crankshaft in the locking position. In order to do that quickly and with minimum effort:
a) remove the undertray
b) put the car in the fifth gear
c) handbrake and two stones on a front wheel, raise the other front wheel on jack; secure the car with something more stable, a jack stand or a log
d) turn the free front wheel s l o w l y until the crankshaft is in locking position; you'll need assistance/help and if your car is an auto you have a problem
2. Insert the locking pin or a metric 6 bolt
3. Remove the bolts from the INTAKE camshafts ONLY
4. Replace the belts
5. Remove the locking pin, start the engine and see what happens

Tips:
You'll need some tools and some improvisation for (4), but it can be done without the special "legal" tool kit.
A mirror placed at an angle of 45 degrees in the proper place and a torch will tell if the crankshaft is in proper position before inserting the pin.

Get it in safe mode, check the marks on both heads of both sprockets. I would also have a look at the front belt, just to make sure.

Get a picture.

The good news is that the engine has been running. That sounds as if the piston and liners are still OK. Let's cross fingers.

If things have gone out of kilt and the valves are bent, then you will have to lift the head(s). But we will get to that IF that is the problem.

Get some pictures first, and pay particular attention to the teeth of the belts, you will have to either brake a belt of loose most of the teeth for the belts to be able to jump, in my opinion.

You don't. It's easier to replace the rear belts first. Then the engine will tell.

Don't think. Count! It's easy, both pulleys are marked.

Mais non! C'est imposible!

With the engine in safe, the markings on the two sprockets (all four lines) should be in line. The engine in the picture has not been set in safe mode, has it?

And apart from that, even if the belts look a bit loose, I don't see any sign that they have jumped teeth, there is no rubber pieces lying around, no rubber dust.

But to be able to tell, the engine needs to be turned until you can insert a small rod through a hole in the bell housing into the flywheel. then the engine is in safe mode with all pistons half way, and, as said, the lines on the sprockets should be in line.

If you have Haynes repair manual, look at page 2B.4 for safe mode.

The good news is the paint on the cam bolt. That looks as if there has been somebody there before. I think these belts might well have been replaced before.

I'm afraid it is from the factory. This is my engine after I had replaced the belts, four or five years ago. Same paint mark and not from me.
DAYCO belts, same as the originals but marked with DAYCO instead ROVER.
(the engine is one rev. in front compared to the book recommendation, that is why the marks are not faced but on the opposite side)
