Default GPS upgrade to Mk3 BMW unit.

Folks.

Having lost my original GPS unit ( http://forums.mg-rover.org/showthrea...76#post1627276 ),
I have purchased a replacement Mk3 unit from Ebay - via Nikin777 in Lithuania.

This is not paypal protected, so I am hoping that all goes well.

The big question however, what is the correct procedure for changing the dead unit ............ I'm naturally keen that the changeover goes well!

Also - what new functionality can I expect from the Mk 3 version over the initial 51 reg fit?

Eagerly waiting your collective wisdom!!

Rgds Ian

If it has the latest firmware 3-1/63 then you will have split screen, proper TMC and a far more intuitive interface

Keith

Many thanks for that - so, allow lights off on the old unit - then change units. Thats it? Just a straight plug and play? Any other work that may require to be done to install?

Is the split screen view an option on the Mk 3 - or do I lose a percentage of my map view with the new system - I do NOT have the 16:9 monitor unit?

Rgds Ian

LED out then disconnect battery then swap unit then delete all previous addresses and destinations it has in memory then wait for it to work out where it is

pics of split screen here

Keith.

Many thanks - questions answered! I assume I haven't lost the tv tuner option - it's not mentioned on any of the screen shots.

I have not read anything on that myself but as usual buyer beware. I bought a couple of items from one particular seller in Lithuania with no problems at all, at that time he was about the only one selling parts now there seems quite a few and you have to wonder where all these parts are coming from.

Keith, They seem to have a Endless Supply Of BMW 16:9 screens, BM24 & BM54's etc out there. Seems very strange as a lot of items are not old, can't be that many BMW's crashed/written off/being upgraded, have now seen the latest Digital Hybrid Tuner TV units on offer, there difficult to get over here (yes I know Bazza has) I can't afford the Genuine article!

Its the fact that they seem to have so many that makes me wary, they can't have all the crashed BMW's in Lithuania!!! Ian's first post was in early December, so I assume he has it by now!!
