just found a thread with exactly the same problem. Gone into service mode and it says number of satelites as 0. Anyone know how long it take to get a fix? The gyro thingy says direction of travel forward and some other numbers. Think i'll go take a picture!

Sorted it! Wooo! Works a charm now!! I'm mighty impressed! Just need to sort the antenna out for the radio and tv, which i'll do at the weekend weather permitting.

It can take a while for the Nav comp to be spot on position wise. Go for a drive and make sure it is within about 10M of every junction. The first MK4 I bought took about 20 miles before it knew exactly where it was

It is worth deleting all old memorised addresses and previous destinations as this reportedly seems to speed things up

Default To be a bore

I used to teach GPS, the reason for your 20 mile innacuracy is basically an argument, when the satnav was powered down it thought it was in one place, being that these units are dynamic (constantly live) it assumes it is still within (x) metres of it's previous position and trying desperately to relocate the last group of satellites ( or the group the almanac tells it are there) and if it can't find them it assumes no satellites are "alive". Therefore, the two options are...wait and it will eventually recontact a "current" satellite and find a huge positional offset and force a re-find for any satellite, or, use the manual reset procedure previously described in this thread.

I hope this helps to explain..

Lets hope the Chinese don't get carried away shooting any more satellites in space otherwise we won't have a system!

So Many people becoming reliant on GPS now, Fire Brigade, CoastGuard, Ambulance service, Blood deliveries, even the army amongst many more, so the Chinese have really demonstated how to bring the west to a halt, half the people have never been able to read a map any many others have just stopped using them. Rant Over.
