Ice Link
Hello everyone,
After reading the many threads and a great deal of advice from this forum, I've started on the road to a widescreen upgrade. My first step has been the fitting of a hybrid tv module, step 2 will be the 16:9 bordmonitor. My main criteria is the addition of mp3 with IDtag display and to make my glovebox available (but this is not absolute). I've arrived at the conclusion that Dension ICE LInk is the way to go although I do believe that "consequence" have a cd autochanger that would do the job. What I would like to know before I make a purchase is; Do I have to fit a new radio unit (BM24 or 54) with mp3 capability to achieve this? I know that a BM54 will give me twin tuner and other display capabilities. I would also like to incorporate my phone into the system if poss' but I haven't seen anything to make me think that's possible, so Parrot may the answer. Over to the expert's!!! (Keith)??? Regards

The BM54 also adds MP3 facilities that the BM24 does not. You do need one of these to have the TMC work all the time as it has the Twin Tuners.

When I was upgrading my system I looked the BM54, but it is not a straight plugin replacement for the MGR HiLine system radio.
It uses the flat pin system. At the time the cost of a conversion lead was £70 to £80 !.... maybe cheaper now ? |

I can't remember fitting a lead converter but the amount of leads in the back of mine you won't believe, so may well have. I got it from a E46 will check the fittings and see what I did. ( I have to take Spare Wheel out, Back Panel Off, God theres no space left in there now for any more Goodies, will need fans soon to cool it all.) So will look at it in Daylight tomorrow.

All real BM54s have flat pins only the very latest BM54 supports MP3 tags from a MP3 capable BMW changer these are truly rare on Ebay as everyone wants one!
If you choose an ice link then that will work with any radio There is a Radio called a BM54 "Back" (I have one) this is effectively a cut over model and is a standard dual tuner BM24 with round pins it has one major difference it like the BM54 only has one antenna connection which means no messing about with the Diversity amp any more. it does not offer an new features You can (or should be able to) install the BMW ULF and even the voice recognition modules but I think a parrot is a much easier alternative |

Thanks for all the info boy's, much obliged!! I hadn't realized that a convertor lead for the '54 would cost another £70 or so!
I've been looking at DC's pictures of his parrot installation and the widescreen with all the info from the'54 showing on it. Very nice! Ditto Keith's many splashscreens (lucky man!) When I complete my upgrade my next questions will be how to do that!!! Regards!
