Dodgy mk4 DVD nav computer?
Started to do the whole nav hardware upgrade thing as it seems to be the 'in thing' at the moment! Got hold of a BMW MK4 DVD nav computer from ebay (from this country), installed it today, but with no success.
The bordmonitor displays the ==BMW== logo for a short time, then the screen goes blank. This happens repeatedly. Every so often the nav menu is displayed (in colour) for a split second then vanishes. Put my Rover MK3 drive back in and it works perfectly. Is there something I'm doing wrong with the MK4 unit or does it sound faulty? Part number is 65 90 - 6 920 182-01 Thanks in advance |

Should just straight swap and start working.
Check: That their is a Navigation disk in unit dont forget you have got a DVD Nav Computer now! If not working it could well be that the seller didn't shut the thing down properly, as if you change them or disconnect while red light is still on it will be broke Im afraid. You must follow correct Shut Down Procedure. If your swapping them over ensure you shut down units properly to, there is a How To on Forums. If this is the case seek a refund. Im sure Keith or someone else will come along with some other suggestions. Last edited by JohnDotCom; 19th January 2007 at 17:51.. |

Sounds like it isn't booting up properly maybe the result of a duff attempt to upgrade the OS or may be a real fault.
As you probably do not know which version of the OS is on it and assuming a cd spins up ok try downgrading it to something like V25 and see what happens then. |

Thanks for the replies chaps.
I followed the correct power down & power up procedures & inserted a 2007 map DVD after installation - you can hear the unit spinning up, but now refuses to eject the disc... makes the software downgrade/upgrade a bit tricky. I think I'll try for a refund. |

Been there and done that on Ebay took weeks and I ended up going for a refund via paypal, I still ended up out of pocket by £30 for postage etc
If you hold the eject down long enough it will spit the CD out but if not and the seals are still intact do not be tempted to take the lid off to extract the CD as you reduce your chances of getting a refund. If you can't get a refund I will take a look at it for you if you like. |

Thanks for the kind offer Keith. I'll try ejecting the disc again at the weekend (when it's daylight). No reply as yet from the ebay seller...
