Default Clutch issue

Evening all
So wifey took the car shopping this morning and within 10 minutes got a call saying that she couldn't get any gears...
Jumped in the other car and when I got there managed to engage all gears but the 1st half of the pedal travel seems loose and then has some resistance.
Haven't had time to look properly yet but the bell housing is dry.
Is this likely to be a master or slave problem?
As I am not able to do anything until monday , I will try bleeding it first as it hasn't been touched since being fitted 5 or 6 years ago.
Any pointers appreciated

Stan

feel around the master for a wet area. If wet it's leaking

.....and while your there, open up the master and check you have fluid. (don't forget to take out the "condom" first though)

So just looked at the car and there is no fluid in the master but it is dry around the area.
Also dry around the bottom of the bell housing.
So any ideas what I am looking at or is it a case of just topping up the fluid and bleeding it through

Ensuring that you have taken out that strange seal, I would put in a couple of centimetres of fluid, then bleed and check the level again, with a cloth and some plastic below the master on the carpet. When putting the seal back do it all slowly so you don't cause it to overflow.
Good luck, and keep the germoline handy.

Seal was removed and has now been topped up and bleed through a few times .
Pedal feels much better and nice easy gear changes.
So fingers crossed that was it.
