Default Quick to teach - dog

I'm no trainer of dogs, clueless really, despite having a dog around for much of my life, but I thought I would try teaching her an easy trick. She is an 8 year old BC, who has just lost her step brother....

The trick was which hand am I hiding a biscuit in, she was supposed to tap the hand with her paw. She already responded to 'paw', to shake hands.

She knew which hand it was in by smelling the biscuit, I just said paw when she identified it with it with her nose. The reward - she got the biscuit when she tapped the correct hand.

The first four times she just randomly tapped a hand, then next eight times, spread over three days, she tapped the correct hand containing the biscuit.

Success, I had no idea they were so easy to train, she usually trains me - I just wish I could teach her something useful, to improve her behaviour whilst out.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

The BC is probably the most intelligent dog out there, you have to keep their minds active all the time.

Absolutely. It's the reason they can become so destructive if they're just left to their own devices - they're bored so they find "something" to do.

Enjoy every minute of her Love.

Apparently they love fig rolls and custard creams. Like the rest of us. When I were a lad we had one. There was never so much as one crumb left on the lino.

This one likes apples and oranges, but only if they are sweet

Plus the cardboard tubes in the middle of toilet rolls, which she likes to tear up and leave in a pile, but she has never been destructive.

I have two rescue Bc crosses. The younger one (now 7) is about 90% Bc. She does get bored very easily. She is not destructive but, when bored, will pester her step brother until he play fights with her.
On the advice of a dog trainer friend of mine, I now take her to agility classes once a week and she absolutely loves it. She improves each time and we have now achieved 3 clear rounds in competition.
Best thing I ever did for her.
