I think I'll deal with the oily bits before I get to work cleaning under there - she's going to need a new reverse piston which is quite messy work. Another very quick update for you all - even the A/C still works! Still holding pressure and running perfectly. I must say (at the risk of backlash) the earlier cars really do seem to be put together incredibly well compared to the Mk2s I've had in the past.

Well done for saving another early Tourer Matt (...and in Moonstone too...). Great to see another perfectly repairable car that'd very likely ended up as scrap, being saved

Agree with the above comments, great to see someone else taking time to save another of these delightful cars rather thaan scrapping or breaking for parts.
As an aside, how do people clean their engine bays? (can they be powerwashed??) I was so happy with the cleanliness of mine until I had to drive it for a wee while with no undertray, so its well mucky now! (but at least I found a replacement undertray!) Keep up the good work Mat

Hi Matt. Here's a starter for you to watch. It's from Detailing World that a fair few of us on here are on as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kbj4J1GNMjU I have used both pressure washers and hose pipes BUT make sure that electrical stuff is well protected. As for actual products I'm a fan of Car Chem as they are an independent manufacturer based in Nottingham so I'm supporting a small UK firm which I like to do. And their stuff is good. Try something like Total Clean, diluted down (https://www.car-chem.com/shop/total-clean) and finish with Tyre and Trim Dressing (https://www.car-chem.com/shop/tyre-trim-dress). Looking forward to the pics Good Luck. |

Right, it's been a while so I better crack on with this!
Next up I'll be removing the headlining to re-cover it - it's started to sag at the back. The fix to the sunroof drains using our kit (here: https://bit.ly/2Xazc7w ) seems to have done the trick - the interior is now bone-dry. I've done various other bits and pieces (I'll come back to list later) and she's slowly getting there - next up will be an MOT after some careful checking over.
