V6 pinhole breather location?
I'm going to replace the mesh filters and gaskets in the cam covers. Where are the pinholes as I understand that they can get blocked too? (First time I've been in there). I have two cam cover gaskets too. Do they need sealant?

No sealant needed. What are referred to the pin holes are in the dead centre of the smaller of the two breathers, the larger ones will not be blocked. You'll probably not see them at first, but wash the covers out and then you'll probably see a darker stain. I used TIG wire to poke mine clean, roughly 1.5mm. Regards |

I guessed that's where they would be but needed confirmation before starting the job. Many thanks.
So, it looks like the large diameter breather goes to the air filter side of the induction and the smaller breather (via the pinhole ?) goes to the other side of the butterfly valve. Presumably to ensure crankcase breathing at lower throttle openings or tickover???? Any oil droplets forming on the gauze on the larger breather will be sucked into and collect in the folds of the rubber inlet, if not pulled right through the manifold. (Evident when I dismantled the rubber inlet pipe recently) No doubt this is why some folks have fitted a catch tank/s in the lines??? Presumably, it may be possible to clean the pinholes via the breather connector and save stripping it all out? I know that the material blocking the holes may/will drop back into the gauze. Full stripping, cleaning and rebuilding will be the best way to go.

You can clean the breather holes with the rocker covers in situ Mike, depends how fussy you want to be.
I put my last set in the dishwasher, gave them a good clean then refitted with new gaskets

I may just check that they are clear for now and wait for warmer weather to do the "proper job"! Cheers, Mike.
