Lost mine on the way back from purchasing my car from Hulls motors in Birmingham. They'd changed them over as it had been on a personal plate. They hadn't bothered cleaning or removing the old stickers.

When I phoned them complaining he told me I would have to put it down to experience. Funny guy! Think he's in the wrong job if he can't even manage to fix a number plate!

Default Lost smiley plates

Thanks Woolleysox. Think I'll go with the screws too. Shame but if one of these plates comes off and goes through someone's windscreen on a motorway it's not just the nuisance of a lost plate. Non-standard plate, insecure fixing? What size book are the busies going to throw at you?

If you're using screws, slightly elongate (horizontally) the screw holes in the plate. This will allow for heat expansion without buckling the plate

Need to order a new plate when I get back but what is the best way of fixing them?
I'll keep an eye on the roads for your plate
