Default ATF the final thread??

After all the threads on ATF suitable for the Jatco box I wrote to Chevron (owners of Texaco brand) to get their opinion on ATF402, N402 & 7045.

This is the reply I received.

The ‘ATF N402’ became ‘ATF 402’ a number of years ago now.
We used to sell the ATF 402, however this has now been phased out.
The options available now are to purchase this from a Land Rover dealership (they should know it as ATF 402 or STC 50531), or we have a new ATF called ‘Havoline Multi-Vehicle ATF’ which can be used as a replacement in ATF 402 applications.
You should not use the Texamatic 7045 E as this grade is a different
formulation and will have different frictional characteristics.

I have attached the data sheets for all three for further information (please note the ATF 402 is an archived copy).

Best regards
Andy.

Thank you!!

This adds to my "ATF research". I was recomded the Havoline multi.... fluid by my local Texaco supplier and adviced to not use the 7045e as this was a different fluid (which also cost 1/3 of the havoline multi...fluid).

Excellent 'detective' work there.

Could this be pinned to the how-to or some reference thread?

I've said thank you Ed in the original thread, but I say it again here! I've also asked for this to be archived in a prominent place.

Simon.

I would say as a guess that Xpart buy in the 210 gal. drums and repack.
Maybe our Xpart member could determine if indeed Xpart are still repacking N402 as VYK000040 seeing as Chevron say this fluid has been discontinued.
There was quite a steep price increase from the £24 odd price to the present £35 odd price (is or was !)
I imagine with our cars getting older with higher mileages, and the increasing realisation that our boxes DO need fluid changes, demand has probably increased considerably............always a good reason to increase price !

I can understand that but if Chevron/Texaco checked their stock list they would easily know what Xpart are buying.
Does the Xpart label still state that it's N402 ? Didn't they change the label some time ago ? Think it has JF403E on the label...........even more confusing
