You can't deny that sometimes it's a purely financial choice. There can be quite a lot to weigh up, for instance, how do you value the car? Is it a cheap runaround you just need to keep on the road, or is there more attachment to it. Emotion shouldn't come into it, it's just a machine..........
But we all know that's not the case. A bit hard to comment on what someone else should do. From what you've said, I'd change the belt and if everything else seems ok, I'd chance it.
