Default Whirring noise!

My 75 diesel is running fine, but there is an annoying whirring noise coming from under the bonnet. It increases when giving it some throttle and is there all the time except when on the motorway, when it is not really noticeable.
Any suggestions anyone?

Might be the fuel pump, is it like a buzzing whirring noise, aftermarket pumps can be noisy

Could be one of the drive belts.

Can you hear it on tick over with the bonnet open ?

Hi Colvert. You can hear it when ticking over with the bonnet up, and inside the car as well. I will get the belts looked at asap.

Hi Mickyboy. It seems to be just a whirring noise. Colvert has suggested one of the belts which I will have looked at, and if that is not the cure, the fuel pump will be next! It is a very annoying noise, on tick over and when driving. Hopefully it will get sorted.

If it was the fuel pump the noise would remain at the same volume all the time as the pump works at a constant speed.

Air con can give a whirring when the refrigerant is low. Switch to ECON and see if it disappears.
