Similar thing happened to me, I thought that there was a very very slight noise most of the time, then had a few occasions with the AC on and the headlights (more load?) and it was noisy, wrongly assumed crankshaft pulley and replaced it (one of the worst mis-diagnosis mistakes I have ever made

), it was fine and so no difference, in doing the job noticed the idler was knackered and the aux belt had a tiny flaw, replaced both, all seems fine (touches plastic wood dash!)
