I've shown the misses the Rover CityRover and she quite likes it.
Did Tata make them or did Rover make them? If it's Tata what engine has it got?

Rover 200 or even 400 are both cheap, Ecconomical and easy to obtain S/H parts.

Made in India, it uses a Peugeot engine. I don't think even Peugeot use the engine!! They aren't very nice to drive.

engine is a 1.4 ex peugeot engine from memory. bare in mind insurence will be dearer than ,say a punto and fiesta and fuel economy is worse than a 1.4 k-series ,some reports say only avarages 35 mpg!!! |

peugeot 106, we got an old turbo diesel, small, high 40s to the gallon round town, easy to not stall! Dead good, highly recommend it, needs power steering though, other than that brill. Pedals are too close together for my feet but that's no prob for someone with twinkle toes

CityRover is out then. I'd rather a car thats recomended as easy and nice to drive.
106 is out as I'd like to drive it sometimes and I find the 106 a little small. Thanks for all the thoughts. Keep them comming.

Would agree 100% with the Punto. All 4 of my kids started with Punto's. Cheapest car to insure for learners. We still have a Mk1 Sporting and a Mk2 ELX in the family and they have just both flew through mot. Easy to work on very cheap parts even new. On 1.2 8 valve models no problems if the cambelt snaps as they are a safe engine replace belt re-time engine fire up no problems have done a few now but the only exception is the 16v we had a belt snap on the Sporting i had to rebuild the head as every valve was bent but the total to rebuild was around £100 so still a relatively cheap job. My 2 girls love 'em Some Mk2's have city button which makes the steering really light, to aid parking, great for a learner Last edited by newcybrown; 16th March 2009 at 19:35.. |

The Honda Logo gets my vote every time. I've just had a look on autotrader an there are some in your price range. the Logo uses the D series engine and is very hard as is the gearbox. Most have aircon too!

What a bonus that Punto's in Crawley.. They're nice cars, and I'm a big fella, but I drove one in comfort.. Bargain too..
Phil's spot on about the D-Series Honda's though, they're absolutely bulletproof. Did they use the D15 / D16 that they put in Civics, Phil? The little D15 made 130BHP with 2 stage VTEC, and was great fun to drive.. Low tax bracket as well..
