Arrow The Car Years!

Tonight, ITV4 @ 8 o'clock, new series with VBH & Alex Riley. Each pick a favourite car from a particular year. First episode, followed by second, is 1964, then 1984. Let's see if their cars would match yours

Thumbs up

I've only just read this but my dream-car choice from the 70s would probably be a Jensen Interceptor. Never really practical for my needs but I was smitten as a schoolboy when I saw one on a forecourt near our home. I remember one appearing in an episode of The Persuaders and that gave some kudos to my choice of it as favorite at the time. I've just googled for the episode and a Top-Gear take on it popped up which probably gives more showtime to the car than the episode that I was looking for:

A friend of mine was allowed to run a Jensen Interceptor as a company car in the late 1990's, and made me jealous as it was only taxed on its purchase price (c £4k) when new and not current value, a situation which I believe still applies today!

However, despite it supposedly being a well sorted example from a well known Jensen specialist in Oxfordshire it was in constant need of repair and he moved on to a number of more reliable classic cars.

In the early 70s £4000 was a shed load of money to most people. In fact in the North East where I live it was actually a house load as both my brother and sister bought their first houses at around that time and both I think paid under £3000 - and that was a massive commitment at the time on a 25-year mortgage.

My late father had a couple of Interceptors, a mk1 and mk2 in the early 70s and ran them as his daily company cars with an Aston DBS in between! The Jensens never gave any problems whereas the DBS gave no end of problems!
The halcyon days of star fuel! Wish he had kept just one of them!
