It is a bit fiddly but possible.. Actually if you have a bit of help you don't need to clip it on the starter motor terminal. Just press it hard against it ( With care. ) while someone pushes the button on the key. The doors will unlock just about instantly.---

RAVE says this: "Should an electrical malfunction of the door latch occur, the vehicle key can still mechanically operate the door latch mechanism if when superlocked." "Superlocking" is MG Rover's term for deadlocking. So Jay please could you put the blade of your key into the driver's door lock and turn it through 90 degrees. Does the interior button on the door card rise? Please let me know because if there is an error in RAVE I'd like to know about it. Simon

If the deadlock could be overcome so easily it seems there's not much point in having it. |

Dead locking is just extra security meaning that if a window was broken to gain access pulling the interior handles wouldn't open the car. Try lubricating the lock and keep inserting the key to free off the tumblers and turn to open. I've had to do this in the past as no one uses the key to mechanically open the car.

My suspicion is the drivers door lock has been replaced and the "dog bone" bar wasn't refitted

Another good idea is to remove the brake disc cooler triangle, seeing t5hat the wheel arch liner would nee peeling back and the screws holding it above and forward you can pop the bumper side out a little which would help you to remove the grommets holding the washer bottle, thus giving you enough room to get your hand in to the box

Didn't think you could do that. I always thought you just pull the inside handle twice and it opens as deadlocking shuts down the motion sensor part of the alarm. I could be wrong though
