Every one I have taken apart and investigated has been the motor brushes that have failed with little or no damage to the rest of the motor. I am in the lucky position of having dozens of these in stock from old Vis motor motors that are stripped out on refurbs of my vis motors, so that is always the initial way to go for me.

My o/s rear lock sometimes doesn't work. I guess that's another diy job for someone else to do for me . Why do I seem to want my 16 year old car to be perfect? Is it a curable disease?
On the plus side - I seldom need to open that door, except to hunt around for something or other I've chucked into the back of the car. Tidy is a word I'm trying to get used to, but every time I 'tidy' things up, I can never later find what I want... Patience is another one of those words! i am so glad you guys have it in abundance, to make our lives easier - thank you!

I sprayed just above and around the child lock button into the door by the lock, with a selection of WD40, WD40 PTFE and then some ACF50 and touch wood, it's worked fine ever since. I pressed the pop up button and pulled the interior release repeatedly for a minute or so after the sprayings (with the door open).

Mabuchi Motors.
I recall Stocktake mentioning that the replacement motors were one of the Mabuchi motors - with flattened sides.
I had prepared a longer reply, but I am having trouble with this site. It keeps telling me that I am not logged on. So here is the brief post, before I have to try yet again. |

Re-booting tis thread in the hope that someone has an answer to the actuator motors.
I'd like to fix the nearside rear so that it opens as well as locks before I put the doorcard back (need to get the trim for the waist level first). I'd fancy getting a lock and seeing if I can make it work so it would be a swap in / swap out. JohnnyBG |

Just a couple of points to note:
1. There is no need to drill the pin out. 2. There are two motors in the door lock, one to lock and one to unlock. Both have different size worm drives and the motors rotate the opposite way to each other. 3. replace the starlock washer with a starlock washer

Great post and it's the kind of thing I usually succeed with as opposed to paint and trim!
The link he posted is to https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Standard-...AAAOSw8mhfGYjC All I need now is a secondhand mechanism to play with. JohnnyBG |

The link above is totally the wrong motor as the connections are a different type;
These are the correct connections but as I say if you want to replace the whole motor as opposed to the brushes you need to ensure the rotation is the correct way for the motor you need to change as each motor rotates a different way

Cheers, Stocktake.
And a big thank you to Artic and others who pointed me n the right direction. I fitted a working s/hand unit this morning as it wasn't raining. I squirted some silicon in before fitting. All's good. When the waist level trim arrives from MickeyBoy I'll put the doorcard back on. I will be dismantling the old unit and having a go at a refurb. as per Artic's How to and Stocktake's advice.
