Default Weak Radio Signal (Hi-Line System)

The radio in my 2004 CDTi Connoisseur (with the Hi-line Audio system) has suddenly developed a very weak signal, such that on FM it can only pick up Radio 2 at one setting, and even that reception is sketchy. Also it can no longer pick up any other programmes when seeking, even local radio.
Can anyone suggest what the problem might be and where I should start checking? The unit seems to be otherwise working ok.
Cheers!
Barry.

I finally discovered the cause of my problem!
I checked the device behind the C-pillar as suggested, but that seemed ok. I then looked for clues in the Haynes manual, which informed that the Hi-line system has a radio receiver in the boot. This is mounted vertically against the back wall of the spare wheel well, below the plastic panel covering the boot catch. Problem was - there was about an inch of water sloshing around down there due to leakage from the rear light seals! Not only that, but some dim-wit at Rover had the bright idea of fitting this apparatus with the multi-plug and aerial sockets positioned underneath the bottom of the unit, about an inch from the floor of the well, so that they go for a swim when water leaks into the boot! A session with the hair-dryer failed to bring it back to life, and the airing cupboard was a no-go, because I couldn't disconnect the multi-plug - so I gave up on it. I then re-sealed the light lenses and drilled two small drainage holes in the bottom of the wheel-well to avoid a repeat episode.
Guess what? After a few days of nice weather the radio has come back to life again! I am so chuffed !
I hope this might be useful to anyone else who has suffered the same problem.

I think most folks are better off pulling the archaic old system out and putting something like the naval double din system in... loads less faff and does a better job...
