bonnet catches siezed
I seem to have a little bother getting my bonnet to remain closed both the Latch assembly-bonnet - FPS100442 have partially seized.( The bits with the crescent shaped catch) I have tried to lubricate in situ but they are still sluggish. Can these be taken apart for lubrication or is it a case of squirting lube in where you can . Another thought is that when we come out of lockdown (whenever that is) the cables will be old enough to accompany me down the pub for a pint so could the problem be these cables are in need of lube. Any helpful advice appreciated.

You can buy the catches and cables from DMGRS. Loosening the bolts to the slam panel a fraction can also help free them off, which will then allow you to work in a bit of grease.

Yes Martin, the catch can be unscrewed and removed from the car for service. Just adding lubricant after 16 years of accumulated dust, grit, grease and rainwater is probably not the best long term solution! I soaked mine in a bath of Gunk, got to work with an old toothbrush and rinsed it off. When dry, I applied suitable grease and bingo, lovely smooth operation was restored. There was nothing wrong with my cables and they're 6 years older than yours!

Slacken the two bolts holding each catch in place a quarter turn and this should get you out of the situation you are currently in. This buy's you time so you a can strip and clean in the not too distant future.

I looked at Rimmers and thought, 75 quid a pair! I need to give the fixing it route a good try before replacing. I now realise DMGRS is 40 quid (plus shipping I presume) still a lot more expensive than fixing but much better than Rimmers. I really don't know why I did not look there first. Being the tight ass that I am (so the wife says) I think we will see if I can free them up after removing them off the car. If I fail no real harm done and at least I know where I can get replacements. Hope it stays dry on Saturday! Thanks for replies guys
