snow mode
Hi all can someone explain exactly what the snow mode on an automatic rover does, i have not yet had to use it as the conditions have not been that bad up till now but think it has to get quite heavy snow come the weekend and how do you use it do you put it into snow mode before driving off or do you put it into snow mode while driving thanks in advance

Snow mode sets you off in 2nd gear and changes up at lower revs. to be honest it is quite useful.
No doubt somebody from Sweden will be on after me telling me my right foot is too heavy

I believe it just compensates for those whose right foot is just too heavy and haven’t learnt to drive with an egg shell between their foot and the accelerator when conditions demand. Engage it before driving off. Basically your auto drives away in 2nd gear rather than first, that’s my understanding.
You’ll be rather surprised to hear that I’ve never used it despite the amount of snow we have. I have traction control too but should really have it permanently switch-off as I just get irritated the times when I do loose traction as I know how to compensate without loosing power as I learnt to drive before all the gadgets like ABS were introduced and had a SD1 Vitesse as my all year round car (with friction tyres). If you do get snow then go out in an empty car park and enjoy yourself while learning how your car reacts - and don’t forget the egg shell between your foot and the brake pedal too. Have fun |

Keeps the gearbox in as high a gear as possible and therefore less rpm than normal.
I've found it to be useful, taking my daughter out sledging on Dartmoor. What is even more useful is a couple pairs of winter tyres on 2nd hand wheels. Even budget genuine winter tyres will make a huge difference, grips the snow like stuff on a blanket I've done this for a couple winters now, since the Beast from the East in Feb 2018. Got them on my work van too, spend a fair bit of time working out in the hills of Cornish moorland, it makes the vehicle a lot more sure footed in bad conditions. |

Last week I was out and was watching a car pull away in the snow, about 2 inches of it, wheel spinning until either traction control kicked in or he got it under control.
I don't have an auto. I just reversed and moved forward using the clutch and no gas until I was rolling. As mentioned about an auto, changed up with less revs. macafee2 |

There's forecasts of blizzards on the way. If you're a key worker and need to be driving around for work, medical service etc, get your car kitted out for winter.
I’ve just seen the ad below from rrobson. https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...d.php?t=310903 It could be the ideal opportunity to get a set of these budget tyres and then smuggly trundle around all winter in the ice and snow. ⛷😉 https://www.mytyres.co.uk/cgi-bin/rs...&typ=R-407811# Plus a few £££ for fitting and balancing should be sorted for about £230. If money is more of an issue just do the front axle this year. |

Only used snow mode once, when I had the 3 litre auto Omega. Taking my other half to work one evening, rain here but the hill en route the rain was quite heavy snow. Cars spun out all over the place. snow mode and a gentle right foot passed the lot of them. Came back a different, lower, route which was clear.
